History

The Dead Gamers Society came into existence in 2002 when Mike (Eclipse), Joe (Lethal) and Bob (Akax) decided that only 2 local LAN Parties in the area was simply not enough.  We met at a Knights of Columbus hall in Kent, Ohio approximately every four weeks which provided a decent atmosphere and a nice pool table for some quality downtime between games.  We found some sponsors such as Bawls and some local electronics stores and started hosting tournaments!

Being high schoolers at the time, we didn’t have much of an idea what we were getting ourselves into!  There were some tripped circuits, blown power supplies, DHCP conflicts, network congestion, you name it…  But we learned a lot and made some friends who last to this day.  In the end, I’d still call it a success.

College came, and with it some drama, and the DGS more or less split up for a number of years.  The Akron Gamer’s League disbanded, LANOhio moved too far away and eventually World of Warcraft came along and several people went missing for years.  Mike moved to Texas and things looked bleak for LAN gaming in Northeast Ohio…  But this too would pass and as of 2013, Mike is back in Ohio and along with Jo (Krhainos), and Tim (Alkali), the Dead Gamers Society is back and hopefully here to stay.

Now the party is held at Mike’s house, which offers plenty of room and even a home theater area. We usually have some ping pong set up too if we have the space. We’ve gotten much better at the power management, the LAN is faster, and the food is excellent! Some things haven’t changed though; we still have a great time with awesome people, and we’re always looking to meet new members.
