QOTL IX: Return of the LAN

LAN GAMERS have returned to their home planets
in an attempt to socially distance themselves from others.

Little do Gamers know that the DEAD GAMERS SOCIETY
has secretly begun construction on a new LAN BASEMENT
even more powerful than the first.

When completed, this ultimate LAN PARTY
will spell certain doom for internet noobs struggling
to play their favorite games…

Come join us July 21-25 for “Quake on Chippewa Lake”. There is no rental house this year. Instead, we will be running the LAN from Mike’s house in Medina OH using the new LAN basement. This year’s schedule is also different from previous years. Instead of a week long Sun-Sat schedule, this year will run from Wednesday, July 21 to Sunday, July 25. If you can’t take the time off work during the week, feel free to stop by after work. Maybe you can only come by over the weekend, or take one day off for a 3 day LAN. Whatever works for you will work for us!

The DGS’s Quake on Chippewa Lake event will be $20 per day, or a total of $100 if you attend the entire event. This includes meals, non alcoholic drinks, and possibly a T-Shirt if we have enough attendees. Meals are typically summer meals like pizza, hamburgers, tacos, spaghetti, etc. Attendees are allowed to sleep over, but there are not enough bedrooms for each person. Plan to bring a sleeping bag, or head home for the night and return in the morning. Payments can be made to Mike using:

Paypal: mhallida gmail dotcom
Venmo: https://www.eagle-quickbid.com/images/MyVenmoQRCode.png
Zelle: contact Eclipse on Discord to pay using Zelle
Cash / Check

Masks will not be required during the LAN. If you are unvaccinated, you should wear a mask for your own protection. Vaccinated or not, we do ask that if you plan on attending QoCL, please don’t gather in large groups in the 2 weeks prior to the LAN, just for everyone’s safety.

Usually Quake on the Lake involves optional activities such as golf, shooting ranges and amusement parks. No official activities have been planned for 2021. However, people are free to self-organize these kinds of activities themselves.

We are excited to run a LAN event again and hope to see you there!

LAN Basement Overhaul

Here’s a photo gallery of the work we did over the winter to finish our basement and create an area for the DGS LAN parties.  It features a large LAN room, a theater area, a half bath, and an additional room in the back.

Some positive news

Sadly, today marks the 1 year anniversary from the last DGS LAN. It’s hard to believe that was already a year ago. Of course we are all too familiar with COVID now, and hopefully the positive news about vaccines points to a return to normalcy in the upcoming months. While it’s still too early to know for sure, I am hoping that the general population will start recieving them early next year, the gathering bans will be lifted, and we can make up for lost time in 2021.

In further positive news, we’ve started the basement finishing project! So once LANs resume, we should have an awesome spot with room for over 20 attendees, a half bath, TV room, and separate room for the ping pong. Best part is an electrical system designed around LANs! I’ll post update pictures here and there, so begin to hype a little, but pace yourself! While we are still a few months from a LAN, remember how quickly this time passed by and it will seem short until we have another.
