March 21 LAN Wrap-Up

Thanks to everyone who came out yesterday!  I know I didn’t give people a whole lot of notice for this LAN, but we still got 11 people who I think had a good time.  We started off with Chivalry: Medieval Warfare.  I had some copies of this game from a steam sale and we tried a few different modes.  Sword games seem to be difficult to do right, but I thought this game was pretty good as long as everyone is fairly noobish.  I have tried online play once and got utterly destroyed.  The graphics where a little wonky but it was fun overall.

Next up was CS:GO which we even got to include Archangel and HellsAdvocate in over the internets.  Maybe next time I won’t take it easy on you guys and load my guns with blanks.

Our last game was L4D2 Confogl trying out my custom server.  I still have some configuring to do, since my server seems to not only removed health packs, but also pills and pipe/molys from the game.  This meant that pretty much once you’re injured, you can’t get health back.  This led to quick gameplay and a very clear demonstration of the price you can pay to go back and help a teammate.  Do you rescue your friend and take extra damage or leave him for dead?  To me, that’s what the game is all about and the confogl mod makes that aspect of the game very visible.  It also makes the infected side a little easier for the people who aren’t familiar with it, and a team balancing mod made sure teams weren’t stacked.  Everyone got switched enough that there weren’t real teams which, to me, made it seem like the score was irrelevant and it was more about having fun watching these doomed survivors get taken down.  I enjoyed it a lot and look forward to getting the server done just right.

There was also Diablo 3 being played for many hours, but we managed to keep WoW at bay for this LAN.  I enjoyed it, I hope everyone else did too, and I hope to do another one real soon!  Stay tuned!

Configuring Confogl

I’m having my own virtual LAN at this LAN
